Design Challenge:
The design challenge is to create a music booklet based off of the lyrics to a song of my choice. The challenge is to incorporate mixed media elements into the design while still having the booklet correlate to the message and vibe of the song.The artist I chose is The Sundays an English alternative rock band from the 1990’s. The song I chose to focus on is “Here’s Where The Story Ends” from their debut album “Reading Writing and Arithmetic.”
Design Solution:
For this design I created a music booklet out of a series of collage. I used vintage magazines, crumpled up paper, and old looking notebook paper to put together elements that appear to be old memories that convey nostalgia. I used repeating elements like pieces of black crumpled up paper throughout my booklet to correlate with the cover. I also included notebook paper with a vintage look with the song lyrics displayed in handwriting to appear like the viewer is flipping through old notes or letters. This correlates with the song’s theme of nostalgia and reminiscing on the past. I included imagery of flowers in my collage throughout my booklet as they can symbolize love, friendship, and relationships which is a strong theme in “Here’s Where The Story Ends.”
